Sunday 14th June, 10-5pm at Brooking Church – booking essential, please contact Sam
All are welcome to join Gia and Sam for a special wild summer retreat. Gia will be introducing us to the Saori weaving system and together we will co-create a ‘liturgical travel bag’ for our pilgrimages and wild communions. Gia will provide drop spindles and set up the loom, plus bring some basic materials. Participants are encouraged to also bring their own fibres, strips of cloth etc and we may be able to also gather and weave in some materials from our wild churchyard.
As usual, we will take a flexible approach to the day. Please plan to arrive at 10am & commit to stay for the morning, if possible. If you would like to stay for lunch, please bring a picnic or some food to share and we will carry on into the afternoon if there are those who wish to do so & close with a wild communion and bag blessing ceremony. We’ll aim to end around 4pm and appreciate help with clearing up after that. Thank you!

Saori weaving originates in Japan. The ‘sa’ of Saori comes from the Zen vocabulary meaning everything has its own individual dignity, the ‘ori’ means weaving. It is freestyle hand weaving without rules and restrictions. It is open to everyone regardless of age, gender or physical ability and was created by Misao Jo in 1968. To book, please email Sam at livingspirit3@gmail.com.
This retreat is offered on a donation basis, with suggested amounts of £60 (supporters), £40 (standard) and £20 (supported). Please be generous as we have no other funding except your donations – thank you!
