6pm every day, from Tuesday 16th until Tuesday 23rd December, at beautiful Brooking Church. In the magical, concluding week of Advent and the approach to Christmas, we will be gathering every evening for a one hour Evensong service by candlelight. This will be a very special, sacred and contemplative time to rest and abide in the beauty and holiness of the deepest days of winter, including marking the longest night of the Winter Solstice on Sunday 21st December.

All are welcome at any or all of these gatherings – please arrive promptly to help hold the contemplative space. Donations are invited to cover costs & church upkeep, either by cash on the day or online here. Thank you!

This service is a collaboration between Wild Monastery, our Wild Church and Fr Jim, Rector of Totnes Team Ministry and we will be joined some nights by choir mistress Harriet and members of Crypto-Orthodox Singing Group. The service will feature our Wild Monastery gender inclusive and chanted Evensong inspired by ‘The First English Prayer Book’ of 1549, with the addition of the ancient ‘O Antiphons’. These are short, plainchant verses, sung to hauntingly beautiful melodies, before and after the Magnificat (Mother Mary’s great prayer of joy and justice) and probably date back to the sixth century.

Please remember to wrap up very warmly & bring a blanket & hot water bottle. Any questions – contact Sam.

Parking is available in front of the church… or catch the Number 80 bus & request the ‘Tigley Cross’ stop. The bus stops at the end of the drive. We have no outside lighting, so have your phone flashlight or a torch at the ready… We look forward to sharing this sacred time with you!
